Go Ara was born in Province, South Korea, on 11 February 1990, so her zodiac sign is Aquarius and she holds South Korean nationality. She is an actress and a model, perhaps still best known for her roles in TV series “Reply 1994”, “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth”, and “Sharp”.
Early life and education
Go was raised with an older brother in Jinju in South Gyeongsang by their mother who is a nurse, and their father who is a soldier, and so moved a lot with her father’s postings.
She became interested in modelling while attending elementary school, and when in a local high school, her best friend encouraged her to send her application to SM Entertainment modelling agency, which became her sponsor, and at the age of 13, Go won the SM Entertainment Teen Model Contest. She also started practicing her acting skills after enrolling at high school, and was appearing in most of the school’s plays until matriculation in 2004. Go did not attend college.
Film and music video appearances
In 2007, she made her debut film appearance, starring in the action adventure film “Genghis Khan: To the Ends of the Earth and Sea”, which starred Takashi Sorimachi and Rei Kikukawa and is closely based on the life of the real Genghis Khan.
She portrayed Liz Park in “Dance, Subaru!” in 2009, and was then invited to portray Yoo Ji-won in the drama sport film “Pacemaker”, which starred Sung-Ki Ahn and Tae-Joon Choi, and follows a pacemaker of the Korean national Marathon team. Some of Go’s more recent roles in movies have been in “Papa” in 2012, “The Magician” in 2015, and “Phantom Detective” in 2016.
Her debut music video appearance was in “Hug”, performed by TVXQ in 2004, which was followed by her appearances in “La’Tale” in 2006 and “Innocent Blue” in 2008. She appeared in another TVXQ video in 2011 entitled “Before U Go”, while she also appeared in “Juliette” by SHINee in the same year. Her latest appearance in a music video has been in “A Million Pieces” by Cho Kyuhyun in 2015.
Go is also a singer, having released her two debut songs “Now” and “Little Girl Dreams” in 2012, while “Start” followed in 2013. She made her debut TV series appearance portraying Leek Ok-rim in “Sharp 1” in 2003, while she reprised her role in “Sharp 2” in 2005. The following year saw her appear in “Snow Flower”, and she was then invited to portray Son Young-in in “Who Are You?” in 2008, and in 2009 was a member of the main cast of “Karei naru Spy” and “Heading to the Ground”.
She became famous after portraying the lead character Sung Na-jung in the comedy romance series “Reply 1994” in 2013, which also starred Woo Jung and Yeon-Seok Yoo, and follows several young adults who are living in a boarding house in Seoul sometime in the ‘90s. She was then invited to portray several support characters in series such as “You’re All Surrounded” in 2014, “The Producers” in 2015, and “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth” in 2016.
Some of Go’s latest roles in TV series have been in “Haechi” in 2019, and “Hospital Playlist” and “DoDoSolSolLLaLaSol” in 2020.
Awards and accolades
Go has been nominated for over 20 awards, and winning eight, her first in 2003. In 2004 she won the KBS Drama Award for the Best Young Actress, and then received a SBS Drama Award for the New Star in 2006. The year 2007 saw her win three awards including a 43rd Baeksang Arts Award for the Best New Actress and a Mnet 20’s Choice Award for the Barbie Girl.
The latest two awards which she has won are a 7th Style Icon Award in 2014, and a Korea Film Actors Association Award for Popularity in 2016.
Love life and relationships
There are rumors circulating the internet that Ara is dating Yunho, a singer and a member of the music band TVXQ. The two have known each other since 6th grade, and they grew up together as best friends. It was reported in late 2011 that they had begun dating each other, but Yunho addressed the public in December 2012 when he appeared in the show “Beatles Code 2”, explaining that the two are only good friends. Nevertheless, most people still believe that Go and Yunho have been together for over eight years now.

He is an actor and a singer, best known for being half of the duo TVXQ. He started dancing while at high school, attending competitions all around the country, and winning the 1st Annual SM Best Competition in 1999. He joined TVXQ on 26 December 2003 when the bend consisted of five people, and their debut song “Hug” became a huge hit, however, three members left in 2010 leaving only Yunho and Max Chagmin.
On 25 May 2015, Yunho also began working on his solo career, with his debut mini album “U Know Y”.

Go has been interested in music since she was seven, began taking piano lessons at the age of nine, then started learn how to play the flute at the age of 13. She enjoys watching movies in her spare time, with some of her favorite actors and actresses being Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio and Anne Hathaway, while some of her favorite movies include “Titanic”, “One Day”, and “Remember Me”.
She likes to travel, and her career as an actress has taken her on several tours around Asia, while she’s also performed at a variety of locations in the US, and has vacationed in several countries in Europe such as Switzerland and Austria.
She is a lover of animals, and occasionally volunteers at a local animal shelter in Seoul – she has a pet dog and a cat. Go likes to read and draw in her free time.
