Who is Barry Sloane?

Barry Paul Sloan was born on 10 February 1981, in Liverpool, Merseyside, England, and is an actor, well known for his work in several television movies such as “The Mark of Cain” and “Pleasureland”, both of which won BAFTA awards. He is also known for his work in theatre, and for voice acting – he voiced the character Captain Price in the 2019 reboot of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare”.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Barry grew up in Liverpool, and at a young age developed a love for the performing arts. He learned various musical instruments as he studied in school, and also leaned towards a career in acting. Eventually he began pursuing the profession by taking-up auditions which landed him his first professional role in “In His Life: The John Lennon Story”, released in the year 2000. The film tells the story of the teenage years of the late-singer of the Beatles.

This opened up more opportunities for him, and he continued making television appearances including in the show “Brookside”.

In 2003, he gained a bit of attention as he was a part of the television movie “Pleasureland”, which would win a BAFTA award for its writing. It tells the story of teenagers living in Liverpool, who increasingly feel the pressure of their environment telling them that they need to grow up. The theme of the independent film mainly centered on the pressure of sex as teenagers.

Over the next few years, Sloane appeared in various television projects such as “The Courtroom” and “I’m a Juvenile Delinquent – Jail Me!”

After a few years break from work, he then gained a lot of attention for his portrayal of the serial killer Niall Rafferty in the show “Hollyoaks”. The soap opera follows the lives of people living within a fictional village, and gained three award nominations, the soap itself winning multiple awards since the beginning of its run in 1995.

During the same year, he made his film debut in “The Mark of Cain” portraying the character Glynn. The television movie follows the lives of three men as they encounter the horrors of war for the first time.

It also deals with the effect of war in their lives as they return home, only to be haunted by their experiences in the war. In 2009, he then made his way towards stage productions, being cast in “Jerusalem” as the character Troy Whitworth. The play won numerous awards during its run which lasted for two years, with Sloane reprising his role with each run.

Rise to Prominence

Barry then returned to work in front of the camera, and was cast in the television series “Holby City”, playing the character Kieran Callaghan from 2010 to 2011; he’d already had a guest role in the show much earlier, though portraying a different character.

The medical drama is a spin-off of another show, “Casualty”, and tells the story of the medical professionals living within Holby City Hospital. The show struggled during its early iterations, but eventually found its stride, winning numerous awards since its beginning in 1999.

In 2012, he was cast in one of his few US projects, in the series “Revenge” which aired on ABC. The plot of the show is inspired heavily by the classic “The Count of Monte Cristo”, and aired for four seasons, becoming one of the highest-rated shows of the network during its run.

While working on the show, he also appeared in his second film, “Penthouse North” which starred Michael Keaton as well as Michelle Monaghan. The film tells the story of a blind woman who encounters a criminal looking for her husband’s hidden riches, as her husband led a double-life as a criminal as well.

Recent Projects

Sloan had a couple of projects in 2015, the first being “The Whispers” which also aired on ABC. The science-fiction show is based on a short story written by Ray Bradbury, which was published in the book “The Illustrated Man”.

He was then cast in a recurring role in “Longmire” as Deputy Zachary Helin, which is based on the novel series “Walt Longmire Mysteries” written by Craig Johnson. It tells the story of a sheriff of a county in Wyoming who solves crimes with the help of his family. The show was highly popular during its run on A&E, and later continued on Netflix.

He then appeared in the History channel show “Six”, which follows the story of Seal Team Six, a specialty force of the US Armed Forces’ trained to fight terrorism.

One of his latest projects is the video game “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare”, lending his voice to one of the main characters. The 2019 iteration is a remake of the original “Modern Warfare” sub-series of the popular game franchise. The game received a lot of praise for its improvements on the original, expanding the story of the series while also adding new features intended for multiplayer play.

Personal Life

Barry married former reality television personality and fashion designer Katy O’Grady in 2013 after being in a relationship for some time.

She is best known for competing in the show “Project Catwalk” during its third season, reaching fourth place. They have two children together, the firstborn three years before their marriage.

In recent weeks, he’s been more active online as many people around the world are in quarantine and isolation because of the coronavirus. He’s been spreading positive messages and giving some advice about things to do while staying at home. He’s recently been nominated for his voice work, and will probably do other voice acting projects as his interest in it has developed strongly after his work in “Call of Duty”.
