Andrea Thoma is an American Doctor in Physical Therapy, whose ticket to fame was her marriage to American actor-singer Grant Gustin.
Early Life and Family
Andrea LA Thoma of Malaysian-American descent, was born on 11 July 1988, in Alliance, Ohio, USA to parents Judy Majalap, a Malaysian, and James Thoma, an American; her zodiac sign is Cancer and her birthstone is Ruby. She and her siblings, Jonathan and Louise Thoma, were raised in Ohio, but are aware of their Borneo heritage and culture. Her mother made sure that she can speak Bahasa Malay and Kadazan by teaching her both local Malaysian languages, along with its traditions while growing up.
Both of Andrea’s siblings are pretty close to her as evidenced by her Instagram posts. Jonathan graduated from Ohio State University, and is now the Business Development Director of Hyperion Motors, and also works at Marriott Hotels in the Sales Department of the resort. Andrea holds two PhDs, works at the University of Delaware, and is currently residing in Newark, Delaware.
Andrea matriculated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisville, Ohio in 2006. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Kent State University (KSU) in 2009, and was awarded a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University in California.
She was the consummate athlete growing up, playing various sports along with her siblings. Jonathan played for Ohio State Football, and Louise track and field at the University of Mount Union.
In high school, Andrea participated in the 100 meters, long jump, and 4×100 relay during the District and Regional Meets. Her time with the varsity soccer team resulted in breaking a record for scoring six goals during a game against Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. She was also named First Team All-Tri County, second-team All-Ohio pick, and NSCAA All-Region III Team in 2005. She played for Greater Akron Premier Soccer Club too.
In college, she was welcomed into the KSU Golden Flashes soccer team.
However, before seeing any action for the team as a freshman, she was put in a medical redshirt year. Her rookie year started in 2007 instead of 2006 due to her knee injury during the pre-season. She was given an honorable mention for the Academic All-MAC Team, and was able to score a multi-goal game that made her the 19th player to do it in the history of the women’s soccer team.
Even when Andrea was still a college student, she worked in Virginia and Connecticut for five months as a Physical Therapist. After graduation, she transferred to Sunnydale, California, and worked for a few months before deciding to pursue her doctorate.
As a Doctor in Physical Therapy, she currently deals with patients recovering from accidents, helping them regain mobility.
She said that one of the most difficult tasks as a physical therapist is to be able to convince the patient to fully commit to the rehabilitation program. She also uploads workout videos on her verified Instagram account, “lathoma3” and official YouTube channel, “Dare to Be Active with Dr. LA Thoma Gustin.” She stated in her channel description, “One of the most valuable things I have learned from my parents, is to lead by example.” Her videos are aimed at motivating people to be active, and show how easy it actually can be.
Andrea married American actor-singer, Grant Gustin, on 15 December 2018 at the Valentine DTLA in Los Angeles, California, after being engaged for two years. They started dating a month after they first met on 23 December 2016 at a Sabah Tourism Board dinner party.
#News || Grant Gustin and his wife from Instagram Good morning. Sweet don't you think? ❤
His planned a romantic proposal with Costa Rica as its backdrop, to coincide with his filming schedule in the Latin American country. However, the filming schedule kept on being pushed back, so he decided to just do it in a casual yet meaningful manner, during one of their beach workouts but almost ruined the surprise by putting the engagement ring inside the workout bag that they both use. Fortunately, she didn’t see it and he was able to pop the question in the middle of a workout routine. Initially, she laughed at him but eventually said yes. That unforgettable moment was shared on her Instagram account.
The intimate wedding was attended by family and close friends including Grant’s fellow “Flash” cast members and production team.
This was just a mere formality for Grant, as he felt that the moment she said yes to his proposal, he was fully committed to her already as her husband. They were also living together for quite some time before the actual marriage ceremony happened.
Who is Grant Gustin?
Thomas Grant Gustin was born on 14 January 1990, in Norfolk, Virginia, USA, to parents Thomas Gustin, a college professor, and Tina Haney, a pediatric nurse. He matriculated from Granby High School in 2008, and pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in Theater Program at Eton University in North Carolina for two years, but didn’t graduate. Instead of finishing his college degree, Grant took a giant step of choosing to be a part of the Revival Tour of the Broadway Musical, “West Side Story”, in role of Baby John throughout the year tour.
When it wasn’t his night to perform, he would continue to audition for other acting parts, both on TV and in movies. Just after his final performance in the West Side Story, he was chosen to be a part of the popular musical TV show, “Glee”. Originally, he auditioned for a tap dancer, but was declined, however, the show producer called him back to offer a significant role. He became Sebastian Smythe, the scheming openly gay member of the main protagonists’ rival choir group, The Dalton Academy Warblers. Some of the songs he covered in the show along with other actors debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, and it helped him gain popularity, particularly with the young adult audience.
A series of TV and movie roles followed, but his biggest break as of yet is when he landed the title role in the TV series, “The Flash”, aired on CW.
It was originally just an Arrowverse backdoor pilot role for a potential spin-off series, but the TV executives decided not to wait and created a stand-alone pilot. From its pilot episode in 2014, over 120 episodes have been aired, and currently in its 6th season, is still going strong ratings-wise..
