Elsa Lafuente Medianu, better known as Elsa Pataky, was born on 18 July 1976 under the sign of Cancer, in Madrid, Spain, of Spanish, Hungarian and Romanian descent.

She was raised by her father, José Francisco Lafuente, who worked as a biochemist, and her mother, Cristina Pataky Medianu, a publicist. She is the elder step-sister of cinematographic director Cristian Prieto Medianu. Elsa studied Acting and Journalism at the Universidad de San Pablo CEU, but did not graduate. She is fluent in Spanish, Romanian, English, French and Italian.

Between 2003 and 2004, she played teacher Raquel Albaladejo in the popular comedy-drama series “Los Serrano”, after which she starred as Bárbara in the 2004 horror “Romasanta: The Werewolf Hunt”.
