Early life and education

Matthew was raised in Wyckoff by his father David Rutler who is a car mechanic, and his mother Kathleen who is working as a secretary at a local company.

Matthew grew up being interested in music, listening to bands such as AC/DC and Guns ‘n’ Roses before switching to Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. He attended Ramapo High school where he was physically active, as he played several sports such as football and soccer but was mostly focused on music and improving his guitar playing skills. Upon matriculation, he enrolled at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island, and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 2007.

Career as a musician and other ventures

Before graduating from college, Matthew formed The Nate Mott Band in 2006, with his friends Nate Mott who is the lead vocal and guitar player, Hoyt Hottel on the drums, and Evan Van Gorder who plays bass guitar.

The band started by performing in local clubs and bars before gaining a wider audience and being invited to perform at the Light Foundation charity event. They were part of the Rock the Ink Concert performing at the Dunkin Donuts Center, and opened for Keith Kane in Boston, Massachusetts. Two of their most popular songs are “Vast Expanses” and “Say It”, and their debut album is “Like We Mean It”.

Matthew is also a film producer, having produced and co-produced “The Town”, “Just Go With It”, and “The Social Network” among others. He has appeared in several movies as well, such as “Law Abiding Citizen”, “Something Borrowed”, and “What’s Your Number”.

Love life and relationships

In 2010 Matthew met Christina Aguilera on the set of the movie “Burlesque”, at the time when she was going through a divorce from her now former husband Jordan Bratman. She met Jordan in 2003, two married on 19 November 2005, and three years later she gave birth to their son; their divorce was not finalized in 2011. Matthew and Christina became engaged on 14 February 2014, and later that year she gave birth to their daughter Summer Rain Rutler.

Christina also has full custody over her son, and Matthew and she are rising the boy together. Matthew was in a long-term relationship before meeting Christina, dating a singer two years younger than him and the two were together for over five years, however, he broke up three months before meeting Christina.

She is singer, songwriter, and an actress, possibly best known for her debut self-title album. She was raised with her sister named Rachel on Staten Island, by her father Fausto Xavier Aguilera who was a US Army soldier, and her mother Shelly Loraine Kearns who is a musician.

Due to her father’s job, the family moved quite often while she was still young and she lived in New Jersey, Texas, and also spent several years in Japan. Her father was an abusive man, and Christina found comfort in music, while her parents went through divorce when she was six, after which the two girls stayed with their mother.

Christina was only eight years old when she won her first talent show, singing “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)”. She studied at Rochester District Art School before moving to Marshall Middle School, and then enrolled at North Allegheny Intermediate High School, however, as she was bullied there, her mother decided that she should study at home.
